Waad AlBawardi is a Saudi visual artist and molecular biology researcher based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her artistic practice explores complex patterns in nature and emergent behaviours in biological and physical systems. She uses transdisciplinary approaches merging scientific methods with creative exploration, incorporating creative programming, microscopy, and experimental lab techniques to explore the unseen forces that shape our environment. As a live visual artist, she regularly collaborates with musicians to create reactive visual performances.

For Hidden Door’s 2025 Festival AlBawardi presents Morphogen, which uses creative programming to simulate an ever-evolving digital ecosystem. Familiar organic patterns mutate into otherworldly forms, revealing hidden potentials within natural systems.
