Muiereann’s practice exists at the intersection of materiality, storytelling, and sustainability.

“Through installation, sculpture, performance, and participation, I explore the transformation of materials and the narratives embedded within them. My work reimagines industrial and natural processes through a lens of care, resistance, and experimentation.”

“I weave humour throughout my work, approaching topics which I feel are important and relevant, through experimental mediums. Working through mediums such as olfaction, sculpture, print and performance, my work attempts to make the ideas that I explore more accessible and understandable to a wider audience, by not only allowing them to view the work, but to experience it. My works are always created from a huge body of research on topics of my interest.”

For Hidden Door’s 2025 Festival Muireann presents Layers of Care. This multidisciplinary installation reimagines the creation of plastics as a slow, ritualistic, and symbolic act. It challenges industrialised, hyper-masculine production methods by embracing feminist approaches rooted in care, experimentation, and sustainability. The project invites audiences to engage with the process of bioplastic creation, reframing this typically industrial act as one of intimate, hands-on craftsmanship.

At its core, the installation is a bioplastic cinema space where material and documentation coexist. Through the combination of sculptural elements, video projection, and audio elements, the work offers an immersive experience that encourages reflection on our relationship with plastics and the potential for sustainable, intentional practices. A projected video will document the tactile, transformative process of bioplastic creation.

“The project explores themes of ritual, care, and sustainability, positioning bioplastic creation as an act of resistance to industrial norms. By situating the process within a domestic, feminist context, it challenges capitalist and hyper-masculine connotations of the plastics industry. This hands-on approach fosters a sense of connection and responsibility, transforming materials into something valued and cared for.”
