Gosia Walton is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice has flourished since graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 2015. Her work has been exhibited in prestigious Scottish and European institutions, and includes solo exhibitions in Paris, Poland and London.

In 2022, Walton’s creative direction underwent a profound shift following her diagnosis with Long Covid. This pivotal moment redirected her focus towards exploring relationships between the female body, mental health and nature. Drawing became her daily ritual – a meditative practice through which she processed her evolving experience. In 2024, her painting took centre stage at Visual Art Scotland’s “Then and Now: 100 Years of VAS” exhibition in Edinburgh.

After navigating more than 900 days living with Long Covid, ME/CFS, and POTS, Walton has often confronted feelings of invisibility. This exhibition represents her courageous reclamation of purpose through art – sharing both her personal journey and works created before her illness.

For Hidden Door’s 2025 Festival, Walton presents eight unique pieces crafted from luminous acrylic sheets. Each semi-transparent surface has been meticulously etched, engraved and rastered with organic forms that appear suspended within the material – creating an ethereal effect. Utilising sophisticated laser-cutting techniques, these fluorescent acrylic sheets capture and emit light, glowing distinctively under both natural and artificial illumination.

Seven works were created between 2015 and 2022, while the eighth piece, specifically commissioned for this exhibition, combines fluorescent sheet collages with strips of bark collected from the Juniper Green area and the Pentlands – a poignant marriage of artificial and natural elements.
