Ellen Crofton: iterations

Dance

Every night: Wednesday 3rd – Sunday 7th June

“iterations” is a choreographic piece that seeks rhythms in chaos and states of repetition. The work builds on Ellen Crofton’s ongoing research into chaotic patterns and social choreographies, demonstrating how congruence emerges through iteration.

About Ellen Crofton

Ellen Crofton is a Glasgow-based experimental multidisciplinary artist and choreographer. Through experimenting with performance throughout the MLitt Fine Art Practice course at GSA (2022-2023) and through the study of English Literature at undergraduate level (with a focus on Renaissance Theatre), Ellen’s choreographic practice relies on various mediums and their intersections.

She integrates interactive and experimental sound, film (abstracting digital film or 8mm film), and text into her choreography. Prevalent in all Ellen’s work is a keen interest in the transitional state of the stage, as well as queer, radical or collective spaces.

The performance presents the body as “residue”; through iteration and chaos the dancers repeatedly return to their bodies’ rhythms. ‘iterations’ offers a glimpse into the unpredictable but steady rhythmic nature of the way we move and are moved. Collaborating performers include Rasa Kazėnaitė and
Louise Honeybul.
