Call for Live Music – Hidden Door 2022

Calling all bands, singer-songwriters, electronic music producers, solo musicians, music collectives and composers… we’re now inviting applications from Scotland’s musicians to perform at this year’s highly anticipated Hidden Door Festival, taking place in the incredible Old Royal High School in Edinburgh from 9-18 June 2022.

Bands and musicians based in Scotland are invited to apply to be part of the festival’s live music programme, which includes indie-pop veteran trailblazers Saint Etienne, as well as new exciting acts like Warmduscher, Yellow Days and Dry Cleaning, plus established acts like This Is The Kit, Portico Quartet and Edinburgh’s own Tinderbox Orchestra.

If you are interested in appearing on the bill alongside talent like this, then fill in the short survey below.

There are limited places, with only 8 slots reserved for the open call. We are looking for acts that will fit well with what we have programmed, but will also stand out and make an impression on our audience.

Hidden Door is committed to creating opportunities for emerging talent to reach new audiences, and so we want to find acts that will make the most of the chance to play at the festival, and will benefit most from it. We are excited to discover and showcase new music talent in Scotland, and even though we can’t book everyone this year, we hope to discover bands and acts that we can work with in future festivals and events.

Full guidance and how to apply

How to Apply

To apply, fill in this online survey.

Deadline: midnight Thursday 7th April

The form will ask for a photograph or graphic representing you or your band (this can be a poster, promotional shot, press shot or a logo/image designed to represent you/your band)

It will also ask for a link to an online video. This can be footage of you live, or a video to accompany a release. This is not compulsory, but is advisable.

The form will ask you to provide a link to recorded music online. This can be a link to Soundcloud, Bandcamp or Spotify, or any platform where the selection panel can listen to your music.

Please note the selection process is mainly based on the review of applicants’ supporting material and as such we strongly encourage applicants to provide links to high-quality material where possible.

A panel comprising members of the Hidden Door team and music programming partners 432presents will conduct selection. Successful applicants will be notified by email by the end of April. Due to the volume of applications received, we are not able to give feedback on individual applications.

You will be asked in the application if there are any dates between 09.06 – 18.06 that you are not available. Please let us know if there are any dates during the run of the festival that you or members of your band will not be available to play. Please note there are no live performances on 13.06, 14.06 or 15.06.

If you are selected you will be offered a date or several options for dates. Your inclusion in the line up will depend on you being available on the date or dates offered. If you cannot make any dates offered then your selection will be withdrawn and offered to another act. This is entirely at the discretion of the Hidden Door music team.

In the interests of fairness Hidden Door will provide a flat fee of £150 for a solo act and £200 for a band with more than one member. If you feel this fee is not appropriate for your performance for any reason, you have the opportunity to suggest a different fee and your reasons in the application. Please note that Hidden Door is an independent registered charity and raises all the funds to pay for its content.

Hidden Door will provide all technical requirements and technical support for the selected acts. Once selected, acts will be assigned an artist liaison who will work with them and help them provide all necessary technical information and promotional information required by Hidden Door.

Making Hidden Door a Success

Hidden Door is organised and run by a team of around 60 volunteers who commit to making the festival happen in their spare time. We ask our contributors to help promote the event, share social media content, and help with general publicity where they can. Specific requirements and arrangements for listing and promoting your show will be made available as soon as possible after selection. We also like our contributors to help by being a presence at the festival where possible.

Participating artists will receive a full access pass to the entire festival as well as guest list passes and discount codes that will be confirmed closer to the festival.
