We are now looking for a Bar Manager to join our dedicated team of volunteers organising our non-profit arts festival.
This role is primarily a volunteer position, but with an additional one-off payment of £1,500 for duties undertaken during the festival event itself (9-18 June), as there are certain key activities that must be performed at specific points during this time. It is anticipated that the voluntary element of the role would run from April to the end of June, with the festival taking place from 9-18 June. Prior to the festival, the voluntary commitment will be around 2-3 hours a week on average.
We’ll also be announcing our general call for volunteers very soon.
Hidden Door is a volunteer-led arts charity that organises the Hidden Door Festival, an alternative multi-arts festival set up to support and nurture new creative talent in Scotland. It transforms disused, neglected and unusual urban spaces in Edinburgh into temporary festival venues, which provide a platform for emerging creative practitioners working in a range of disciplines, visual art, theatre, music, dance, film and spoken word.
From 9-18 June 2022, Hidden Door will stage a ten day multi-arts festival at the iconic Old Royal High School in Edinburgh, bringing it to life, filling its spaces with live music, contemporary dance, theatre and spoken word events that reflect some of the most exciting emerging talent in Scotland.

The role will interact with various other teams within Hidden Door, including Finance, Sponsorship, Marketing, Venue and Operations, as well as recruiting and supervising a team of bar staff during the festival itself. This would be an excellent opportunity for an experienced individual looking for additional responsibilities to assist them in taking the next step in their hospitality or events industry career.
The Bar Manager will be responsible for the smooth running of the bars during the 2022 Hidden Door festival. The main responsibilities of this role would include:

Hidden Door is mainly planned, organised and run by a team of volunteers, with a small core team of part time paid staff who work on the festival and related activities all year round. In recognition of the importance of the role of Bar Manager, the role would include a one-off payment of £1,500 for duties undertaken during the festival event itself, as there are certain key activities that must be performed at specific points during this time. During the build up to the festival and after it finishes, the role would be voluntary, and can be mainly undertaken at the convenience of the post-holder. The festival and team are based in Edinburgh.
