Hidden Door Festival is taking place from 31 May – 4 June 2023 and we are looking for musicians who would like to contribute to this event and be part of our programme.

Hidden Door is on a mission to put on some of the best and most exciting new live music around for the 2023 event. We are currently putting the music programme together, but as part of that, we are inviting bands, singer-songwriters, electronic music producers, solo musicians and anyone else who can pull off a great live set to get in touch and submit an application. We are looking to include around 10 acts who we select from the entries we receive.
We are looking to show a range of the best new, emerging and innovative music being made in the UK today at Hidden Door which will take place in ‘The Complex’, a huge and distinctive empty 1970’s office complex in Edinburgh.
Hidden Door is inviting applications from bands, singer-songwriters, electronic music producers, solo musicians and any form of live music performance from any genre to form part of the Live Music Programme at Hidden Door 2023
For the first time we will not just be restricting entries to music acts based in Scotland, so anyone from the UK can apply. However, as a charity set up to promote and support culture in Scotland, we will be looking to select a majority of acts who are based in Scotland.
A panel comprising members of the Hidden Door team, music programming partners 432presents and some guest selectors will conduct selection. Successful applicants will be notified by email by mid February. Due to the volume of applications expected, we will not be able to give feedback on individual applications.

Please note the selection process is mainly based on listening to the applicants’ music – we will only listen to the tracks listed in the application, and we may not listen to the whole track. We will always listen from the beginning. We strongly encourage applicants to provide links to high-quality material where possible.

Date
If you are selected you will be offered a date or several options for dates. Your inclusion in the line up will depend on you/your band being available on the date or dates offered. If you cannot make any dates offered then your selection will be withdrawn and offered to another act. This is entirely at the discretion of the Hidden Door music team.
Fee
In the interests of fairness Hidden Door will provide a flat fee of £180 for solo act, £250 for a band with more than one member.
If you feel this fee is not appropriate for your performance for any reason, you have the opportunity to suggest a different fee and your reasons in the application. Please note that Hidden Door is an independent registered charity and raises all the funds to pay for its content.
Travel
Hidden Door does not have extra budget to pay travel expenses on top of this fee, so it should be considered as all-inclusive. This may mean the opportunity is more suited to acts more local to the event, but that is up to applicants to decide. However, as mentioned above in the ‘Fee’ section, you can ask for an increased fee and state reasons for this.
Hidden Door will provide all technical requirements and technical support for the selected acts. Once selected, acts will be assigned an artist liaison who will work with them and help them provide all necessary technical information and promotional information required by Hidden Door.

Hidden Door is organised and run by a team of around 60 volunteers who commit to making the festival happen in their spare time. We ask our contributors to help promote the event, share social media content, and help with general publicity where they can. Specific requirements and arrangements for listing and promoting your show will be made available as soon as possible after selection.
We also like our contributors to help by being a presence at the festival. Participating artists will receive a full access pass to the entire festival as well as guestlist passes and discount codes that will be confirmed closer to the festival.
