Having spent some time progressing her career in the poetry community as event organiser, host and editor, Julia Sorensen returns to Hidden Door with a work entitled “The many-faced artist as a young woman’s portrait” – a tragi-comic tapestry of roles a young femme artist takes on to develop her body of work.

Each poem a different (and facetious) ‘face’ of the artist, for example, explaining the ironic performativity of an Insta photoshoot in an art gallery, pitching herself to a wealthy patron benefactor, accepting a posthumous award as a ghost, or a slug wallowing in self-pity.

Julia Sorensen is a published writer, musician and visual artist. She first performed at Hidden Door in 2022, where she performed a feature-length music / spoken word work entitled “a little bit of everybody,” producing audio tracks which paired with the poems’ cadence and tone.
