For the first time, Hidden Door will feature comedy as a key part of our main programme and are pleased to be working with Gilded Balloon as one of several exciting new partnerships and collaborations we have in store for 2018. Over two nights, Gilded Balloon will present a line-up of Fringe favourites as well as a showcase of new material by faces old and new.
Internationally respected, Gilded Balloon is one of Scotland’s leading entertainment venues presenting an annual programme as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe as well as at its new year-round home at the Basement Theatre.
Katy Koren, Artistic Director at Gilded Balloon, said: “Gilded Balloon is beyond excited to be presenting two comedy shows at Hidden Door Festival in 2018. We are incredibly proud to host some of the best local talent as well as those from further afield. Our line ups for Hidden Door feature varied styles of comedy and writing that we think suits what Hidden Door is all about. From those trying out new material in advance of the Fringe to others laying down their very best jokes, there is something for everyone!”
The performances will take pride of place in the heart of the abandoned State Cinema in Leith, which we are taking over and brining back to life for the festival.
Hosted by Scott Agnew and featuring Rosco McClelland, Alfie Brown, Harriet Dyer, Rachel Jackson and many more – Gilded Balloon is beyond excited to be bringing its famous Work In Progress show to Hidden Door 2018 – one of two comedy nights at this year’s festival.
Our Work In Progress show is an opportunity for fresh faces and old hands to get down and dirty on stage and discover new material. Usually hosted at the subterranean candlelit Basement Theatre, it’s a chance to get experimental and to see material everyone will be raving about at the Fringe before anyone else. This year, Gilded Balloon bring the very best comic talent to Hidden Door to try out new tricks in a brand new venue.
Hosted by Jay Lafferty and featuring Mat Ewins, Lou Sanders and Chortle Awards 2017 “Comedian’s Comedian” and Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Richard Gadd, Gilded Balloon is beyond excited to be presenting this – one of two comedy nights at Hidden Door Festival in 2018.
Straight from Gilded Balloon’s new venue, Basement Theatre, The Comedy Show is a curated line up of our Fringe favourites. Comedy definitely isn’t just for August so every Friday & Saturday night the Gilded Balloon presents a fabulous bill of comedians from across the world to provide some serious laughs and in 2018, we’re bringing them to Hidden Door.
Your ticket gives you access to everything at the festival that night, across both venues. All shows are included in the ticket price, but please be aware that some performances may be limited capacity and “first come, first served”.
