Edinburgh’s grassroots arts festival up for the ‘Outstanding Cultural Event or Festival’ category in Scotland’s “Tourism Oscars”.
Hidden Door has been officially named a finalist in the 2026 Scottish Thistle Awards for the Central and East region. Shortlisted in the prestigious Outstanding Cultural Event or Festival category, Hidden Door stands alongside the iconic Edinburgh’s Hogmanay and The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
Delivered by VisitScotland, the Scottish Thistle Awards are widely regarded as Scotland’s premier tourism, hospitality and events awards—affectionately known as the “Tourism Oscars.” For over 30 years, the awards have celebrated excellence, innovation and success, recognising the individuals, businesses and events that create memorable experiences and support local communities across Scotland.
The nomination celebrates Hidden Door’s transformative approach to the arts. Renowned for breathing new creative life into abandoned, derelict and forgotten urban spaces, Hidden Door creates immersive multi-arts experiences combining music, visual art, theatre, dance and film.
Having previously scooped the Thistle Award for “best cultural event in Edinburgh and the Lothians” for our transformation of Leith Theatre, this latest accolade underscores the significant cultural and economic value that grassroots, volunteer-driven festivals can bring to Scotland, demonstrating the vital contribution that community-focused initiatives make to Scotland’s vibrant cultural landscape.

Regional finalists from the Central and East region will compete at the regional award ceremony this September, with regional winners advancing to the Scottish Thistle Awards National Final later in the year.
