Sarah Calmus is an interdisciplinary artist, artworker and self taught sound maker. Interactive, multisensory sustainably produced experiences are central to Calmus’s practice, where works often draw focus on environmental concerns that build equity for participators and critique and explore ecologies of ecosystems of varying scales.
Calmus has been shortlisted for the Creative Edinburgh Leadership Award (2021), and was nominated to be the President of Visual Arts Scotland (2020-2023). Calmus was also shortlisted for the STV Digital Spark Award (2015), and is a recipient of Participant and Alumni funding from Creative Informatics (2020-2023).
For Hidden Door’s 2025 Festival, Sarah Calmus presents her latest project Oh vatten, Oh uisge (Oh water, Oh water) . This experimental light installation honours water as the force that has connected the sites and histories of The Paper Factory, Edinburgh and the Cellulose Factory, Edsbruk Sweden. Time, space, and memory are examined through the power and constancy of water as The Water of Leith and Edsån are bound together in light.
