We’re proud to feature in The List Hot 100, the annual celebration of Scotland’s cultural landscape and those who have had the biggest impact on it.
This year, the Hot 100 name-checked our Festival Director, Hazel Johnson, for her part in delivering our 2023 festival at the former Scottish Widows HQ. The sell-out event attracted 5-star reviews and won the Creative Edinburgh City Award for its ambitious transformation of the building into a mix of promenade art installations and immersive performance spaces.
Hazel, however, is the first to point out that Hidden Door is a team effort.
Hazel said: “I’m absolutely honoured to appear in the Hot 100 alongside some true cultural legends, some of whom have previously featured at Hidden Door.
“Hidden Door is only possible thanks to the hard work, passion and talents of hundreds of wonderful volunteers, creatives, crew and collaborators.
“The team is already making plans for 2024 and we can’t wait to share more details soon.”
Over the years, Hidden Door has supported over 3000 artists and performers to develop work and reach new audiences. Our volunteer-run charity is entirely funded through ticket sales, sponsorship and fundraising. All money raised goes into running the festival and ensuring their creative contributors are fairly paid.
Next year will mark a decade since Hidden Door opened up the vaults on Market Street for our first full festival. We have found several potential new sites across Edinburgh and are now raising funds to take our plans to the next stage.
We’re also holding an Art Sale, 8-10 December at The Hub on Castlehill. All proceeds from the sale will be split between the artists and Hidden Door, so every purchase will go straight towards supporting the local creative community.
