Emily Knight

Motivated by the desire to document rose-tinted memories; paintings, illustrations, and animations have formed the basis of my work over the last few years. I inspect and recollect visual memory through the playful act of painting, distorting my retellings and applying visual references to past, present and future associations.

My paintings often display a combination of abstracted colour, contrasting figures, and trompe l’œil rendered material to help articulate a collapse in the experience of memory. Sketches, postcards, tickets & stickers often find themselves painted onto the surface my works, there’s a pleasure I find in making new connections between memory objects and the stories it helps to tell within my figurative scenes.

At times my practice blurs the boundaries between painting, film and sculpture, reflecting the way our multifaceted experiences bleed into our own sense of identity.
