Damien Cifelli

I’m an artist from Edinburgh, who works in different mediums like sculpture, textiles, film and animation; but primarily, I’m a painter.

My work is focused around the idea of fictional anthropology and storytelling, referencing the scale and compositions of history paintings and historical sculpture.

My work explores a fictitious land named Tarogramma; a hidden world of my own invention. I’m trying to build a detailed culture; with its own aesthetic, way of living, and understanding of the world.

The artworks function as visual storytelling, similar to a novel or a film; objects, portraits or scenes representing the daily lives of inhabitants of Tarogramma. There are recurring characters, icons, clothes, and specific artefacts. Each piece has its own unique short story attached that builds on the idea of the discovery and exploration of the land of Tarogramma.
